YOUR JEWISH WEDDING IN TUSCANY
We offer two different locations for your Jewish wedding in Tuscany: the Great Synagoge of Florence and Synagoge of Siena. The Synagogue of Florence offers a largervenue, while the synagogue of Siena offers a smaller, more intimate space.
Both Synagoges are part of the same Orthodox Jewish Community and follow the Sephardic minhag, however we welcome people who follow other minhagim who would like to get married in one of our synagogues.
CHUPPAH AND WEDDING CEREMONY:
During the ceremony, men and women sit separately on the two sides of the Bimah. The Chuppah is usually set up in front of the Aron ha-kodesh. The ceremony typically lasts an hour and is performed according to Florentine tradition in Hebrew. Any changes to the ceremony must be agreed with the Rabbi.
The Community provides the Chuppah, a silver Kiddush cup and the glass to be broken at the end of the ceremony. Appropriate dress-code is required.
KETUBAH:
The Jewish marriage contract (ketubah), is done according to local Florentine customs, as established by antique Jewish traditions in Italy. The ketubah includes the names of the bride and groom, as well as their father’s names. Just before the bride and groom unite under the Chuppah, the ketubah is signed in the Yeshivà Margulies, a smaller Temple adjacent to the larger Temple. According to local tradition, the groom signs the Ketubah.
The Community provides a basic Ketubah on standard priting paper, however it is possible to order a Ketubah on privately ordered parchment paper according to Italian Jewish artistic tradition, prices will depend on the artistic complexity of style requested. These decorate Ketubot can be ordered through the Rabbi or the Segretary.
MIKVEH:
The Jewish Community Mikve offers a Mikveh to the left of the Synagogue, in the garden. The ritual should take place as close to the ceremony as possibile and must be done in the three day period before the wedding. The balanit of the Community will welcome the bride and accompany her to the Mikveh, which is under the strict supervision of the Rabbinal office.
It is requested that the couple set up a meeting with the Rabbi to prepare for this ritual. The brides’s friends are welcome to accompany her to the Mikveh and celebrate with her.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED:
If you would like a civil wedding, in addition to the Jewish one, you must also submit an official document certifying the “nulla osta” to your marriage. Additional documentation may be required.
In addition to the rabbinal documents, which must be provided in orignal copy, the groom must also buy a ring for the bride, and as mentioned above, he must also sign the Ketubah, taking on the legal and moral obbligations toward his bride as established by the laws and the customs of Israel.
WEDDING DATE:
The date of the wedding must be agreed with our Rabbi, as there are certain periods during the year in which according to Jewish law cerimonies cannot take place.
To reserve the date of your ceremony, a deposit of 30% of the total amount will be required by bank transfer or credit card. The balance will be due within 10 days of the date of the ceremony. Please note that the deposit is non-refundable.
Shabat Katan (Alià la Torà):
The Sabbath before or after the wedding we can organize a Shabbat Katan calling up to 5 people to take part in services.
